The Owego football team beat Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour 34-20 Friday on WEBO. Dustin Dann scored three times to lead the Indians rushing attack that totaled 461 yards in the win. Luke Kiballa and Micah Marshall also scored and Ben Schmidt kicked a 33-yard FG as Owego won their fourth straight game to improve to 5-2 on the season. They will play at Waverly this week with a trip to the playoffs on the line. Speaking of the Wolverines, they handled Dryden 32-0 at Memorial Stadium on Friday. Elsewhere: Tioga lost at Groton 20-16. The Tigers will return there to begin the Class D playoffs this week. Newark Valley rushed for over 400 yards and six touchdowns in the first half as they dominated Spencer-Van Etten/Candor 53-6 and Union-Endicott beat Maine-Endwell for the first time since 2008, winning 26-14 Friday.

In college football, Syracuse upset 17th ranked Virginia Tech 31-17 Saturday at the Carrier Dome behind the legs and arm of quarterback Eric Dungey. As heard on WEBO, the sophomore became the first in SU history to rush for 100 yards and throw for 300 more as the Orange beat a ranked opponent for the first time since 2012. In NASCAR, Kevin Harvick won Sunday’s race at Kansas that was heard live on WEBO to join Jimmie Johnson in the next round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup. The next elimination race will be held Sunday at Talladega.
