The Elmira-Corning Regional Airport is preparing for a $58 million renovation project that will replace the existing terminal. Director of Aviation Bill Hopper was a special guest on today’s WEBO Morning Show. He says the new terminal will include a special security screening area.
“It’s going to be very unique. It’s going to be what the architects refer to as a walk through the park when you go through screening. Your typical screening is high stress, but ours is going to be all glass right through some very nice landscaped terrain,” Hopper says.
The airport, which is owned by Chemung County, was one of four airports in the state to receive a $40 million grant to help pay for the project. Construction will begin in mid-July and finish by October of next year. The airport will remain open through the project.
