It was perhaps the single greatest day in program history for Newark Valley wrestling on Sunday. A school-record five Cardinals were individual champions at the Section 4 Championships at the Binghamton University Events Center. Section IV Division I titles were won by three-time champion Trevor Hoffmeir at 145 pounds, two-time champ Derek Holcomb at 160, and first-time winners Bennie Baker at 99 pounds, Larry Kasmarcik at 152, and Vinnie Darpino at 170. Newark Valley came up short for the team title, finishing fourth in the Division I standings. Each of Sunday’s 30 champions, fifteen each in Division I and Division II, earned automatic berths in the New York State championships held at the end of this month in Albany.
