The Owego Free Academy Lady Indians came up short in their quest for a Class A Section IV title on Wednesday night, losing to Vestal 53-37. A close game throughout, the fourth quarter made the difference in this ball game, as Vestal was able to score the first 14 points of the final period of the game. Noelle Patterson of Vestal scored all of her game-high 11 points in the fourth quarter, pulling the Golden Bears away from Owego. Jill Silvanic and Emily Merrill each scored ten points for Owego. The loss was the last high school game for Silvanic, Rachel Merrill, Kaylee Miner, Caitlin Watson, and Vic Young. Rachel Merrill, a 1,000 point scorer for her career with the Indians, was held to five points on Wednesday. She will move on to play basketball at the University of Vermont next year. With the win, Vestal has a date with Maine-Endwell in the section championship next Friday.
