The Scripps National Spelling Bee saw a Corning eighth-grader crowned as one of its champions. Sriram Hathwar was one of 12 contestants to make it to the finals of the competition, eventually making it to the final two. The competition ran out of words, leading to Hathwar and his opponent being named co-champions. The appearance was Hathwar’s fifth at the spelling bee. For his accomplishment, he will be taking home several prizes including $30,000 and a $2,500 U.S. savings bond.
