The man that is accused of crashing into the Ithaca Chief of Police’s vehicle is now behind bars in Virginia. Christopher Rundt was arrested Saturday in Virginia Beach and is now facing charges of public intoxication and giving a false identity to a police officer. Investigators say witnesses said Rundt appeared drunk when he hit the unmarked police vehicle that chief John Barber was driving last month. Police say that Rundt stole multiple vehicles while trying to avoid police and was already wanted on a parole violation. An extradition hearing in the case is expected before he is brought back to Tompkins County to face charges.
