State Senate candidate Barbara Fiala has recognized October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Fiala says that, if elected, she would push for several pieces of legislation to better help victims of domestic violence, including eliminating housing or workplace discrimination against victims, and requiring translation of domestic violence complaints. Fiala’s campaign says an estimated 70% of domestic violence cases go unreported, and in 2014 alone, over 24,000 people were turned away from shelters. Barbara Fiala is running against Republican candidate Fred Akshar for State Senate in November.
