The Spencer-Van Etten School Board held a vote last night to merge five of the district’s sports teams with the Candor Central School District.
The teams being merged include: cheerleading, varsity cross country, varsity boys and girls soccer, and varsity football.
The board approved the merger by a vote of 5-2. Administrators at Spencer- Van Etten cite low sports enrollment and poor sports seasons last year as deciding factors for the merger. The cost of transportation and uniforms as a result of the merger between the two schools is anticipated to be just over $13,300. The merger will be on a one-year basis. After that, the board must vote again.
