Sports from the weekend: OFA and others win, SU loses, NASCAR playoffs continue

image1The Owego football team took down Ithaca 27-16 Friday on WEBO. The Indians racked up 390 rushing yards, including 132 and a touchdown from Josh Goodrich. Luke Kiballa scored twice and Mitchell Card added another touchdown. In other games from the weekend: Waverly battled Maine-Endwell, but ultimately fell to the Spartans 22-14. The two teams combined for 14 turnovers. Newark Valley rolled Unadilla Valley 54-8, Tioga beat Newfield 54-0, and Spencer-Van Etten/Candor edged Lansing 50-44. 

 

In college football, Eric Dungey threw for two scores and ran for three more, but it was not enough as the Orange lost to Notre Dame 50-33 at Metlife Stadium.

 

In NASCAR, Martin Truex, Jr. won again, and the Chase for the Sprint Cup is now down to 12 drivers after yesterday’s race at Dover. As heard on WEBO, Chris Buescher, Jamie McMurray, Kyle Larson, and Tony Stewart were eliminated from contention. The chase will continue Saturday night in Charlotte.
