Broome County has been awarded $650,000 to help neighborhood revitalization efforts. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced $20.9 million in new grants across the state on Friday, including the award to the Broome County Land Bank. They will use the funds to purchase, demolish, and rehabilitate 17 foreclosed or abandoned properties in the Village of Johnson City and the West Side of the City of Binghamton. The grants are funded through settlements with the nation’s largest banks over their misconduct that contributed to the housing crisis. The attorney general’s office has awarded $57 million from the settlements to land banks across New York since 2013.
