A Newfield man has been arrested in connection with the death of a four-year-old child last year.
According to the New York State Police, 31-year-old Justin Fenton has been charged with manslaughter in the second degree, criminally negligent homicide and tampering with physical evidence.
Troopers were dispatched for a report of an unconscious four-year-old child who wasn’t breathing and suffering cardiac arrest on June 30, 2024. The child was transferred to the Cayuga Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
A toxicology report determined the child’s death was caused by a fentanyl overdose.
An investigation revealed Fenton’s drug use at the time recklessly exposed the child to a lethal dose of fentanyl.
Fenton was indicted on the charges by a Tompkins County Grand Jury on Sept. 4.
