An Athens woman is facing felony charges after allegedly stealing from the Athens American Legion Auxiliary.

According to police, 45-year-old Heather Cron has been charged with 39 counts of forgery, 39 counts of theft by unlawful taking and 39 counts of receiving stolen property.

Cron allegedly attempted to cash a check from the legion into her own account.

The suspect placed $9,000 cash into four separate accounts the American Legion had through a local bank on the same day she was confronted by a legion member.

An audit allegedly found dozens of checks Cron issued to herself for different reasons. Some were listed as loans and money for Christmas presents for kids. The checks date back to 2017 and end last year, with the total amount over $13,000.

Cron was arrested and given $100,000 unsecured bail.
