An Athens man was remanded on $1 million dollars bail after an investigation into incidents that left his 3-year-old daughter permanently disabled.
According to court documents, 26-year-old Dalton James Sweat has been charged with three felony counts of aggravated assault, one felony count of endangering the welfare of a child, and misdemeanor simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
Sweat is accused of kicking the child with steel-toe boots and potentially causing her to fall down a flight of stairs.
Charges were also filed against Sweat’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Alyssa Rae Kithcart. She has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.
The incident happened on May 20th and resulted in the child being life-flighted to the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Doctors said the victim’s brain was non-functioning and it was not likely the child would regain normal function.
