Tigers take down Newfane, punch ticket to state finals

The Tioga Tigers are heading back to the Dome after a 20-16 win over Newfane in the Class D state semifinals on Sunday.

The Tigers will look to win the 5th state title in program history when they take on Section I champ Tuckahoe at 3 p.m. this Friday at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse.

Tioga built up a 14-0 lead at halftime and led 20-6 with 7:18 left in the fourth quarter.

From there, Newfane would mount a comeback led by senior quarterback Mac Capen, but the Tigers defense would make several stops to secure the win.

Logan Bellis led Tioga with 211 yards and two touchdowns, while Max Stauder had 24 yards and one score in the win.

Tioga will play Tuckahoe for the state championship this Friday. The game will be broadcast live with pregame coverage starts at 2:40 with kickoff set for 3 on Choice 102, WEBO and the My Hometown Today app.
