One person was killed in a car accident in Chemung County on Monday.
According to the New York State Police, the crash occurred at around 2:09 p.m. on Monday on State Route 13 in the Town of Veteran.
State troopers responded to a report of a vehicle driving erratically on State Route 13. They were redirected to a car accident with the vehicle on fire.
Troopers attempted to put out the fire but it was too intense. The Horseheads Fire Department responded to the scene to extinguish the fire. A body was found in the driver’s seat of the car after the fire was put out.
Police said the car was driving south before going off the road, striking a cattle fence and driving through a field before hitting a tree.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The identity of the victim has not been released.
