An inmate at the Elmira Correctional Facility has been charged with attempted murder and assault for attacking another prisoner back in 2024.
According to the New York State Police, 50-year-old Oscar Fernandez, who is currently serving a life sentence for murder and assault, has been charged with the new crimes.
Fernandez allegedly assaulted the other inmate in September of 2024. The victim suffered a severe head injury from the assault.
He was arrested on Jan. 5 and will be arraigned on second degree attempted murder and one count each of first and second degree assault.
