Athens man facing charges after allegedly barricading himself, kids with gun

A 47-year-old Athens man is behind bars after he allegedly barricaded himself and two children in a home with an AR-15.

According to police, Benjamin A. Hiley was charged by Athens Township Police with person not to possess a firearm, endangering the welfare of a child, terroristic threats, simple assault and reckless endangerment.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 pm on Thursday. Officers responded to the scene following a report of a man with an AR-15 throwing things around the house with two children hiding inside.

The suspect allegedly shot a rifle before police arrived. He would come out of the home after communicating with officers for about 10 minutes.

Hiley was taken into custody and remanded to the Bradford County Jail on $250,000 bail.
