The Corning boys and Horseheads girls both advanced to the New York state basketball Final Four with wins over the weekend. Corning rallied to force overtime and then pulled away for a 72-64 win over William Floyd to reach the program’s first-ever state semifinal. Nolyn Proudfoot led the Hawks with 40 points and 21 rebounds in the win. Corning will play Fairport in the state semifinals at 1:30 pm on Friday at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in Binghamton. The Horseheads girls led wire-to-wire in a 57-30 victory over Cornwall. The victory sends the Blue Raiders to the Final Four for the first time since 2002. It also gave coach Andy Scott his 400th career win. Samantha Bonnell led Horseheads with 16 points and Maggie Tremaine added 15 points in the win. Horseheads will play North Tonowanda in the state semifinals at 1:30 pm on Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.
