The Guthrie Clinic is encouraging former and current smokers to get screened for lung cancer at one of two upcoming screening events:
-
Friday, March 27, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Guthrie Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, N.Y.
-
Thursday, April 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, 1 Guthrie Square, Sayre, Pa.
Lung cancer screenings are covered by most insurance and Medicare plans for those between the ages of 50 and 80 who have at least a 20 pack-year history.
A pack-year is a way to measure smoking exposure. Smoking one full pack of cigarettes daily for 20 years, or two packs daily for 10 years, would equal 20 pack-years.
