The New York Department of Environmental Conservation is sending nearly $300,000 to the Southern Tier to fight invasive species.
The Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District will receive $207,000 to restore more than 64 acres of riverbanks and forest in the Chesapeake Bay watershed area.
The funding will allow for new vegetation planting and invasive species control projects.
The Cortland County Soil and Water Conservation District will receive over $79,000 to support the region’s Aquatic Invasive Species Spread Prevention Program.
In total, the DEC will send $5.1 million dollars to communities across New York.
