The Elmira City Council has approved a temporary ban on data centers in the city.

The resolution puts an 18-month ban on data centers while the council learns more about different types of centers and its impact on the community.

The resolution can be overturned by the council at any time.

Fourth district council member Gray Brinn originally introduced a resolution to prohibit zoning for data centers in the city before it was changed to the temporary ban.

The Elmira City Council meets every other Monday at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
