New York state lawmakers finally approved a $268 billion dollar budget on Thursday, 57 days past the original deadline.
The finalized budget comes after 15 emergency budget extenders were enacted over the last two months.
The budget delay was due to disagreements between Gov. Kathy Hochul and legislative leaders over issues like climate law changes, auto insurance reforms and utility rate spikes.
The 2026-27 spending plan is an increase of around $14 billion dollars from the previous year’s budget.
Hochul signed the budget on Thursday.
