Waverly man facing felony charges after incident in Southport

A Waverly man is facing several felony charges after he allegedly climbed a utility pole, removed copper utility line and scrapped it.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, 38-year-old Vincent Depaul has been charged with felony counts of criminal mischief, grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

The incident occurred at around 12:30 p.m. on May 26th in the Town of Southport.

The suspect climbed about 60 feet up a utility pole and removed copper lines. He then reportedly scrapped the copper at a business outside of Chemung County.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Waverly Police Department and Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.
