After serving Delaware County for nearly 19 years as Sheriff, Thomas Mills is stepping down. Mills announced his decision to retire on Monday. He said in a news release that “the time is right for me to retire.”Thanking all Delaware County residents, his employees, deputies, corrections officers and all other staff he worked with over the years, Mills said he has achieved his goal to make Delaware County a safer place to live, work and raise a family. Undersheriff Craig DuMond will serve as acting sheriff until the position is filled by appointment or election in November.Mills said DuMond is seeking to be elected sheriff and that he endorses DuMond. Mills’ retirement takes effect on Monday (August 28).
