Elmira Police investigating death of dog in animal control custody

The Elmira Police Department is investigating the death of a dog in animal control custody.

Police said the dog was taken in as a stray the day before it died in animal control custody on June 4th.

The dog was reportedly taken to a vet that day for evaluation and vaccination before being returned to the shelter.

It was later found deceased, but police did not say where it was discovered.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
