HORSEHEADS, N.Y. — The Village of Horseheads is moving forward with plans for a multi-year redevelopment of Thorne Street Park and the surrounding Department of Public Works property.
Village trustees recently toured the park and DPW facilities during a workshop to review proposed improvements aimed at modernizing aging infrastructure and expanding recreational amenities.
A key part of the project is the restoration of the Thorne Street Park pool, funded by a $4 million New York SWIMS grant. Construction is expected to begin after the pool closes at the end of the 2026 season.
The first phase of the project also includes removing outdated buildings to create a new entrance to the park.
Future plans call for replacing aging baseball fields, repurposing underused areas, adding a regional dog park, and improving pedestrian safety throughout the property.
Village officials say the long-term goal is to transform Thorne Street Park into a premier regional destination for recreation and community events.
