The Broome County Legislature has officially announced that it will restore a 50/50 sales tax split with municipalities in 2017. In recent years, a majority of sales tax that didn’t go to the state went to Broome County, leaving local municipalities with an uneven share of the tax dollars. However, that will change at the end of the first quarter next year. All sales tax dollars not collected by the state will be evenly split between the county and its municipalities.
