The Binghamton man scheduled to stand trial next week for a double-homicide could see his trial be delayed. 40-year-old Aaron Powell was set to stand trial on Monday, May 19th, in Broome County Court after he was accused last year of killing his estranged wife, 35-year-old Christina Powell, and her friend, 24-year-old Mario Masciarelli. Powell pleaded not guilty in county court to an indictment of one count of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder. Broome County Court Judge Joseph Cawley was asked by Powell’s attorney for additional time at a pre-trial hearing held Monday. After the murders occurred last March, a four-day manhunt ensued before Aaron Powell was taken into custody, and he was found and arrested outside a convenience store in Montrose, Pennsylvania. A motive for the double murder has yet to be specified by officials. Powell faces a sentence of life in state prison if convicted of the first-degree murder charge.
