A five-vehicle accident slowed traffic on Route 81 North near exit 7 in the Town of Chenango late yesterday evening. The accident occurred when a car struck a deer, disabling the vehicle in the middle of the road. Two other cars stopped to avoid colliding with the disabled vehicle, however, they in turn were struck by two tractor trailers that could not slow down in time. One of the tractor trailers failed to successfully swerve out of the way, and ended up rolling over. It was carrying household merchandise. Emergency responders and the Department of Transportation worked late into the night to clear the wreck.
