A fire erupted at Apalachin Fire Station No. 1 yesterday evening. Officials on-scene at the time indicated that a lightning storm that had gone through the area earlier in the day might have caused an electrical issue at the station. As a result, the station’s oven turned on on its own. The oven eventually heated up to the point that it began to melt a plastic bottle left on the stovetop. Damage was minimal and mostly cosmetic. The station is back in service.
