Athens Town Supervisors this week approved a six-month extension for the FEMA trailer park off Wilawana Road. The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency requested the extension, saying that seven or eight people still live at the park. The FEMA trailers were brought in to house those who lost their homes during the September 2011 flood. FEMA and the township had an 18-month agreement which expires in March. The extension would bring the duration of the trailers to the two-year point since floodwaters ravaged parts of the township. The original FEMA contract said it could be extended for up to 24 months total. But the agreement can also be terminated by FEMA or the owner of the property where the trailers sit. There are currently also nine empty trailers, which FEMA could transport to other areas, such as those hit by Hurricane Sandy.
