Harlan Rowe Science Olympiad team brings home hardware from state competition

The Harlan Rowe Middle School Science Olympiad team had a phenomenal day at the State Competition that took place at Penn State Altoona on Saturday, April 25. They missed a National bid by only 2 points. The team has made Nationals 4 previous times, their score at States this year was their best State score ever.

The team medaled in 22 of 23 events which ties their best performance ever at States.  The 23rd event was only 1 place away from medaling. In the build events of Hovercraft and Scrambler, they posted their personal best scores to date.

The team took more first place medals than any other team, with 6. Eight of the fifteen team members can lay claim to State Champion in at least one of their events.

The simple summation of how they did so well and yet still didn’t make Nationals comes down to the improvements that their competitors have made to their program.  In past years, 90 points (Harlan Rowe’s score) would have been enough to take first at States, but because of the hard work put in by teams around the State, they were able to raise the bar in Pennsylvania.

Congratulations to the Harlan Rowe team and their coaches on a very successful season!
