PennDOT plans to place a permanent, year-round 10-ton weight restriction on part of Wilmot Road in Bradford County. The affected state route is Route 2007, between Ambrosius Road, which is Route 2009, in Wilmot Township and Shaffer’s Notch Road, Route 2011, in Terry Township.
The restriction is expected to take effect once signs are installed, which PennDOT says should happen in approximately two weeks. Until those signs are in place, drivers should continue to follow the restrictions currently posted along the route.
PennDOT says the decision follows a traffic-and-engineering study. The study found the highway may be damaged by vehicles that exceed the proposed 10-ton limit. The posting is intended to reduce that risk and protect the road from additional deterioration.
Several categories of vehicles will be exempt. PennDOT says school buses, emergency vehicles and local-delivery trucks may continue to use the posted section even when they exceed the restriction. Other operators of heavier vehicles should plan an alternate route once the signs are installed.
The agency describes the restriction as permanent and year-round, rather than a temporary construction closure. PennDOT did not announce a full road closure, detour or lane restriction as part of Thursday’s notice.
Drivers can check major-road conditions through 511PA at 511PA.com, through the 511PA mobile application or by calling 5-1-1. PennDOT also directs travelers to its District 3 page for planned and active construction projects in Bradford and nearby counties. Motorists should watch for the new signs and observe the posted limit when it becomes effective.
