A Chemung County man has been accused of breaking into a Corning, Incorporated building and stealing thousands of dollars worth of equipment. Deputies say 27 year old James Steffen broke into the building in the Town of Erwin early in the morning back on April 3rd and stole computer components and hardware. While searching Steffen’s home in Elmira, investigators say they found hardware he had stolen from the facility while working there last year. Investigators say Steffen would sell stolen computer equipment in Florida and then used the proceeds to buy guns from South Carolina. In total, authorities recovered $31,000 worth of computer equipment, along with several hand guns and long guns. Steffan has been charged with burglary, grand larceny and criminal impersonation and authorities say more state and federal charges are pending.
