The Binghamton Police Department recently added a new four-legged officer to its department.
Rambo is a 16-month-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois. His handler and supervisor of the K-9 unit, Christopher Bracco, has trained Rambo with the help of other officers. Bracco and others are employing a new method, which allows the officers to mold the dogs early. A majority of the costs for Rambo were donated by the Community Foundation of South Central New York and other community organizations. Rambo cost $7,500. Donations are also used to cover food, veterinary care, medication, bills, training and equipment. Bracco says Rambo is already proving himself on the streets. The department bought Rambo as a 6-month-old puppy. He will live with Bracco throughout his life and service with the Binghamton Police Department.
