The Greater Binghamton Airport is looking to add new routes to its list of direct flights. While the economic troubles of the country have led to fewer flights, the county-owned airport just finished a $12.9 million improvement project that has positioned the facility to expand its selection of direct routes. In the past, the Binghamton airport has been limited to direct flights to Detroit, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. Airport officials say that at the request of the airlines, they are not able to discuss which hubs they are trying to connect to, but they are reportedly aggressively pursuing the new routes. Adding more direct flights out of the airport would likely serve as a boost to the local economy.
