Four men helped put out a small fire before it spread into a house on Lake Avenue in Binghamton Tuesday. 26-year-old Mike Hunsinger says he and his friends noticed flames coming out of a window on the building at 21 Lake Avenue, and called 911. As they waited for emergency crews to arrive, Hunsinger and his friends, 18-year-old Johnny Thach of Baxster Street, 18-year-old Patrick Oliver of Chestnut Street, and 16-year-old Dayquion Banks of Mary Street, ran to neighboring houses and found buckets which they filled with water and used to dump on the fire. The fire charred and melted the siding around a window in front of the unoccupied residence. The closest firefighters when the call came in were responding to a vehicle accident on Main Street at the time, but the four men were able to extinguish the fire before firefighters and police arrived on the scene. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
