Binghamton City Council unanimously voted on Wednesday to approve a bid by Red Barn Technology Group to purchase the Greenman Senior Center on Pine Street. The building has been vacant since it was damaged by flooding in 2011. Red Barn had submitted a bid of $140,000, which actually came in at $12,000 less than the highest bid. Members of City Council say that how the bidders used the building was equally as important as the price paid for the facility. Red Barn is looking to expand in the new building and add technology jobs, expecting to create at least 20 jobs with the move to the bigger facility. They will also be donating part of the building to the Magic Paint Brush Project, a group that offers community services to people with special needs. Before the sale to Red Barn can be finalized, the Board of Estimates and Apportionment will have to give their approval. Red Barn Technology Group is a computer company that works with larger organizations, such as higher education facilities and private companies. They currently work from a location in the Town of Chenango.
