The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a staff member of the Owego-Apalachin School District. 45-year-old Amy Wales of Owego has been charged with Grand Larceny in the 2nd degree. Her arrest comes as a result of a 3-month investigation into the reported embezzlement of funds from the bank accounts of the Owego Apalachin Employee’s Association. The Employee’s Association represents staff members such as secretaries, custodians, and teachers aides. Wales was serving as the Union Treasurer. The investigation revealed that over $50,000 had been taken from the accounts over the past year. She was arraigned in Owego Village Court on Tuesday and released on her own recognizance. She is set to reappear in court next Tuesday. Wales is currently still employed by the district.
