With Broome County receiving $81.9 million last week to improve the economy, plans are already in the works to develop property throughout the county. One of those areas is near the Greater Binghamton Airport. It’s been titled the Airport/Landfill Corridor Improvement Project. The goal is to use the wooded area between the airport and the landfill along Airport road to create a mini-corporate park where businesses can blossom and bring jobs to the county. Broome County Executive Debbie Preston said the first step is to develop the land to attract potential buyers, and to do that they have to make the thousand-acre site shovel ready for developers, and extend the sewer line up the airport corridor. The project will cost $10.3 million total. Preston is currently in the process of finalizing the plans with designers. She said the area will be shovel-ready by the end of Spring with the project complete by 2015.
