A kerosene heater may have caused a fire that significantly damaged a garage in Binghamton. The Binghamton Fire Department responded to 5 Julian Street around 1:15 Saturday afternoon for reports of smoke coming from the garage. Someone living at the home had turned on the heater inside the detached garage, and then went back into the home. About fifteen minutes later, the resident saw the smoke and called for help. The fire department said there was significant damage to both the garage and the equipment inside, but no vehicles were parked in the garage at the time. The cause of the fire still officially remains under investigation.
