Broome County Sheriff David Harder is advising drivers to stay off the roads as much as possible. Harder says drivers should limit their travel as much as possible. Those who must travel the roads are advised to leave with extra time to arrive at your destination, and leave with at least half a tank of gas. Travelers are also advised to dress warm and make sure to carry a charged cell phone. Also, drivers are asked to park off the road way to allow for easier snow removal. If an accident does occur, travelers should not leave their vehicle or walk around. People should stay inside their vehicle and wait for help–that is the safest place to be. Those shoveling should remember to take frequent breaks to avoid back injuries, and the possibility of heart attack.
