The Town of Union has issued an ultimatum to the owners of a former Endicott-Johnson building on North Page Avenue: Fix it up, or tear it down. The several story building has broken windows, floors with holes and a roof in desperate need of repairs. The town board passed a resolution unanimously Wednesday night setting up a timeline for the building to be repaired by the owners. If that isn’t done, the building comes down. The fence must be secured by March 10, first floor doors and windows secured by April 15, and the remaining doors and windows in the building need to be secured, roof replaced, steel beams brought up to code, and new flooring by June 30. The town is also giving the owners the ability to demolish the building by June 30. They’re requesting $300,000 cash or $600,000 bond to ensure that it’s done. On top of all of those requests, the town is asking the owners for a reimbursement of all funds the town spent on the building. They want that money by April 3. Within 30 days, the town will have the answer on which route the owners want to take – demolition or rehabilitation. The fence and the first floor windows must be secured by April 15th, regardless of what ultimately happens to the building. There are large holes in the chain-linked fence around the property that will allow anyone to get onto the property. The building is owned by Alpine Endicott Realty, LLC and the town says they’ve done nothing to maintain the building after receiving a list of necessary upgrades to keep it up to code.
