The Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena will be undergoing a name change. Starting in July, the arena will be renamed after Floyd L. Maines Jr., a Binghamton native, World War II veteran, and entrepreneur whose legacy is best associated with Maines Paper & Food Service of Conklin. The company bought the naming rights to the arena. Maines will be paying $75,000 a year as part of a five-year agreement for the right to name the arena the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. The county owns the arena, and will continue to operate and maintain it. The five-year deal for the name change can be extended for another 15 years through three renewals of five years each.
