Parents gathered in Owego on Sunday to show their opposition to the Owego-Apalachin school district’s policies relating to Common Core testing. The gathering took place near the county courthouse. One of the policies being protested was what the parents called a “sit and stare policy”, which requires students who refuse to take state mandated tests to still sit at their desk and do nothing else while other students take the test. The protestors say that the policy is a form of bullying in order to get parents to make their children take the tests.
