Tioga and Broome counties combined to see 100 private-sector job losses over the past year. According to figures released by the New York State Department of Labor, 100 jobs were lost from March of 2013 to March of this year, dropping the numbers from 81,400 to 81,300. The region also lost 300 government jobs during that span, 100 at the local level and 200 at the state level. Of the eleven upstate metro areas, the only four to lose private-sector jobs over the past year were the Binghamton, Elmira, Ithaca, and Syracuse areas.
