Broome County Executive Debbie Preston announced on Thursday that she has been diagnosed with lung cancer. Preston says she will remain in office while receiving treatment. The diagnosis comes following two months of tests. After being set for a minor foot surgery, pre-surgery testing in the months prior showed a mass in her lungs. Her final diagnosis came Tuesday following her second biopsy. Her next course of action is for doctors to determine the best treatment moving forward, which could include surgery or chemotherapy. Some of her treatment will be taking place at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
