Sayre Native Alaska StateTrooper Shot and Killed

A shooting in Alaska resulted in the death of two Alaska State Troopers, one of which was a native of the Sayre area. Trooper Gabriel Rich and Sergeant Patrick Johnson were shot and killed on Thursday, and 19-year-old Nathaniel Lee Kangas is under arrest in the incident. Gabriel Rich was born in Sayre and grew up in Fairbanks, Alaska. He had been a member of the Alaska State Troopers since 2011, and is survived by his fiance, their 1-year-old son, and his fiance’s 8-year-old son. Rich was in the process of adopting the older boy before he was killed. Both troopers were reportedly shot around 3 o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday. Few further details have been released in the investigation.
