Two Tioga County residents have been charged for an alleged plot to kill one of the county’s assistant district attorneys. 30-year-old Ashley Nugent of Candor and 42-year-old Russell Towner of Owego are accused of scheming a plan to kill an assistant DA while they were being held in the Tioga County jail. The plan called for them to raise money, allegedly with the help of Ashley’s husband, David Nugent, to help post bail for Towner, so that upon his release he could kill one of the assistant district attorneys, of which Tioga County has three. There is no word on whether one specific assistant DA was being targeted. At this time, neither the district attorney’s office nor the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has divulged any further information regarding the investigation. David Nugent was not charged in Owego Town Court, but he was listed as a co-conspirator. Towner was in court Monday for a preliminary hearing, and Ashley Nugent waived her hearing.
