With Memorial Day approaching, some Owego residents have been working hard to improve the veterans monuments outside the Tioga County courthouse. Bill Chandler, head of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 480 in Owego, is among those working to provide the upgrades to the monuments. Chandler stopped by the WEBO Morning Show today and talked about some of the work he has done, including preparation for a new monument that will honor Tioga County’s Medal of Honor recipients. He looked to raise money from Tioga County residents to help pay for the monument. Chandler and a small crew have also upgraded the monuments for veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam. There will also be a monument for veterans of modern warfare. The site will also be seeing new flagpoles to display the country’s service flags. A dedication of the new monuments will be held on Monday around 11 o’clock following the Memorial Day parade in Owego. News Radio WEBO will be broadcasting the event live.
